By the 1938 season, winning the World Series was commonplace for the New York Yankees as they were in the midst of four straight championships. Led by the courageous “Iron Horse” and a host of Hall of Famers, the pinstriped American Leaguers swept past the Chicago Cubs to capture another world title. Presented is a 1938 New York Yankees team-signed baseball with (22) signatures including Lou Gehrig. This OAL Harridge ball is penned in dark ink and bears a “Champs 1937” inscription in red. Despite the notation, the inclusion of Gordon and Donald dates this ball to 1938. The surface of the ball reveals moderate wear including light abrasions on each panel, spotting along the sweet spot, and moderate toning and stamp bleeding throughout. Additionally, four of the signatories are unidentified, and DiMaggio and Dickey have been deemed “clubhouse”. Included are Sweet Spot: Gehrig (d.1941, “3”), Pearson (d.1978, “2”); West Panel: Schreiber (d.1982, “5”), Gordon (d.1978, “5”); East Panel: Hadley (d.1963, “5”), Crosetti (d.2002, “3”), Henrich (“3”); North Panel: Ruffing (d.1986, “3”, first name variant), Jorgens (d.1980, “4”), Donald (d.1992, “4”), Dickey (clubhouse); South Panel: J. Vance (d.1978, “4”), Knickerbocker (d.1963, “3”), Dahlgren (d.1996, “5”), Murphy (d.1970, “4”), Glenn (d.1985, “3”), Rolfe (d.1969, “2”) and DiMaggio (clubhouse). With the exception of the noted clubhouse signatures, the remaining autographs come with an auction COA from James Spence Authentications.
