The legend and lore of Abe Attell (d.1970) is simply the stuff movies are made of. Affectionately known as The Little Hebrew, Attell began his boxing career in 1900 and became World Champion multiple times, defeating the likes of Tommy Sullivan, Battling Nelson and Johnny Kilbane and setting a then-record for consecutive title-defense fights with 18. During this era his relationship with mafioso Arnold Rothstein grew, and his alleged involvement as the messenger between Rothstein and the Black Sox remains a topic of discussion. Presented is a lovely 3-1/2 x 5-1/2 photograph penned by Attell (7) in blue ink, authenticated and slabbed by SGC/JSA. Despite an ink stain and an album flaw on the reverse, the photograph remains aesthetically pleasant and will surely fit into any autograph, boxing or Black Sox collection.
