Description

Although the 1929 Philadelphia Athletics broke the New York Yankees stranglehold on the American League, the Gotham Bombers were still led by “The Bambino”, “The Iron Horse”, “Poosh ‘Em Up Tony” and a host of other Hall of Famers. The offered 1929 New York Yankees team-signed baseball with (19) signatures is an impressive glimpse into the foundation of one of baseballs most hallowed dynasties. The black steel-tip scripts are placed on the panels of a period red-and-blue stitched OAL Johnson ball. Included are Sweet Spot: Ruth (d.1948, “7”); West Panel: Lary (d.1973, “8”), Koenig (d.1993, “7”), Rhodes (d.1960, “7”), Pennock (d.1948, “8”), Dickey (d.1993, “7”), H. Johnson (d.1982, “7”); East Panel: Hoyt (d.1984, “6”), Durocher (d.1991, “7”), Grabowski (d.1946, “7”); North Panel: Gehrig (d.1941, “7”), Lazzeri (d.1946, “8”); South Panel: Meusel (d.1977, “8”), Burns (d.1978, “7”), Combs (d.1976, “6”), Paschal (d.1974, “7”), Pipgras (d.1986, “5”), Durst (d.1971, “5”) and Moore (d.1963, “8”). These sterling signatures are preserved by a wafer-thin coating of period lacquer. The ball grades in the (“5-6”) range with multiple surface abrasions lightly affecting the sweet spot, south panel and trademark. Additionally, a light reddish stamp is found on the north panel which doe not adversely affect the Gehrig or Lazzeri signatures. The name of the original owner of this souvenir is also placed to the right of the trademark. With 1920s New York Yankees and “Murderer’s Row” autographed material in constant demand, this relic is an instant collection centerpiece. This important signed ball comes with a full LOA from JSA.
