The 1909 Pittsburgh Pirates finished an impressive 68 games over .500 for the regular season, winning the National League and besting the Detroit Tigers in a tough seven-game World Series showdown. The presented large panoramic postcard displays the legendary squad, noted as Pittsburgh Case Ball Club, National League Champions, 1909. The bottom left corner displays the copyright date of 1909, while the bottom right corner features the stamp of the maker, RW Johnston Studios of Pittsburgh. The panoramic measures 13 x 3-1/2, dwarfing most of its postcard counterparts, and features some great names, notably Harry Camnitz, and Dots Miller, as well as Hall of Famers Vic Willis, Fred Clarke and the incomparable Honus Wagner. The postcard is partially detached from the matting it rests in, though no residue is visible from the front. Barring some light pinking, mild erased pencil marks on the right portion of the reverse and a tiny 1/4" tear on the bottom edge (only seen on the reverse), the oversized, seldom-seen turn-of-the-century postcard has survived very well and will surely impress even the strictest of Bucs collectors. With matting, the total dimensions are 16 x 5-1/2.
