The 1910 edition of the Boston Red Sox rang in the short-lived Patsy Donovan era by finishing a respectable fourth place in the American League. The Red Sox offense was paced by Hall of Famers Harry Hooper and Tris Speaker, while the pitching came from “Knuckles” Cicotte and “Smokey Joe” Wood. This original 1910 Boston Red Sox 26-3/4 x 10 team panoramic is an intricate example from the studio of famed photographer Benjamin Falk (1853-1925). The top edge of the black and white photograph is affixed to the modern day cardboard backing by a piece of archival tape. An accompanying beige matte (also contemporary) identifies the players as Second Row: French, Gardner, Karger, Lewis, Hooper, Speaker, Taylor (owner and president), McBreen (secretary), Stahl, R. Collins, Pape, Niles, Engle, He. Wagner; First Row: Green (trainer), Madden, Carrigan, Donahue, Bradlet, Lord, McCarthy (boy mascot), Donovan (manager), Wood, Hall, Arellanes, Barberich, Cicotte and Schmidt. The blank-backed photograph reveals moderate soiling throughout the reverse, while several contusions on the right portion of the surface have been professionally repaired. Despite the wear, this scarce photograph contains a pleasing eye appeal and is well suited for the advanced Bostonian collection.
