On the evening of September 14, 1992, Cal Ripken Jr. ended a prolonged power drought by belting a Rick Reed pitch into the Camden Yards night for his 270th career home run. The tater lifted the hometown Orioles to a 2-1 victory over the visiting Kansas City Royals. Presented is the Ripken home run ball that provided the deciding margin for that game. The OAL Brown ball was retrieved by our consignor and was subsequently endorsed and dated by Ripken (6, 9/14/92). The ball reveals moderate game usage including soiling, rubbing, and minor bat abrasions along the south panel. Accompanying this artifact is a pair of 8x10 photographs of our consignor with Ripken, one of which is signed (7), and an additional autographed sports section from the 9/15/92 edition of the Baltimore Sun (8). Of the 431 home runs that Ripken hit during his Hall of Fame career, few have as much provenance as this keepsake. Autographs come with an auction COA from James Spence Authentications.
