All speculation aside, Mark McGwire solidified himself in baseball history as one of the game’s greatest sluggers by hitting one homerun in every 10.1 career at-bats. McGwire burst onto the scene in 1987, slugging 49 homers and setting the single-season homerun record for a rookie. By 1998, he had become the center of the baseball universe as he assaulted Roger Maris's single season homerun record. “Big Mac” used the offered game-used Rawlings MAC25 model baseball bat during that historic 70-homerun season. This Cardinals Big Stick shows evidence of outstanding use and a crack in the upper handle and slight grain separation from repeated ball contact. The bat has been signed on the center of the barrel in black marker by McGwire with STL25 inscription (“9”). Numerous ball and stitch marks are visible on the barrel as well as green and red bat rack markings. There is a moderate coat of pine tar on the upper to lower handle. The knob has been stamped with the model number (MAC25), order number (265) and year (98). The bat weights 32.3 ounces, measures 34.5” and is made from white ash. This fantastic baseball relic comes with a full LOA from John Taube of PSA/DNA Grade PSA GU 9, and the signature comes with a COA from James Spence Authentications.
