Perennial All-Star Gil Hodges, the slugging first baseman of Flatbush, presides on this scarce 1953-1954 Briggs Meats card. This difficult regional issue displays advertising borders on each edge and is more evenly cut than many such examples. The surface depicts a smiling Hodges amidst a cloudy skyline and is detracted only by a single surface crease on the lower right corner and an edge wrinkle. Both the front and reverse (slightly soiled) are free of the wax coating associated the series, thus hot dog toning is not evident. Brooklyn’s slugger never looked so good and is a prime addition to any 1950s type card collection.
