Transportation-themed trading cards were popular issues in the 1950s, and presented are a 1953 Bowman Firefighters near set (60/64), 1953-54 Topps World on Wheels near set (159/160, missing #152) and a 1955 Topps Rails and Sails partial set (106/200). The Firefighters set contains illustrations of various fire trucks in action and is considered to be the first “safety” trading card series because of the admonishments featured on the reverse. The World of Wheels and Rails and Sails issues contain colorful educational cards that elaborate on the model specs for the trains, boats and automobiles that each card focused on. The approximate composite breakdowns for these sets are 1953 Bowman Firefighters: 10% (EX-MT or better), 50% (EX), 30% (VG-EX) and 10% (VG or lesser); 1953-54 Topps World on Wheels: 5% (EX-MT or better), 15% (EX), 50% (VG-EX), 20% (VG) and 10% (GD or lesser); 1955 Topps Rails and Sails: 15% (EX or better), 50% (VG-EX), 25% (VG) and 10% (GD or lesser).
