Although Honus Wagner and Pie Traynor starred as Pirates infielders during different eras, the Hall of Fame tandem both served as coaches for their beloved Bucs. This pair signed the offered ONL Frick baseball during a lackluster 1950 campaign for the Pittsburgh National League squad. The sweet spot is penned by Wagner (d.1955) in period blue ink, with the signature grading in the (“7”) range. The “Flying Dutchman” added 1950 as an inscription directly below his first name. Renowned third baseman Pie Traynor penned the east panel of this sphere. Traynor (d.1972) personalized the ball to a previous owner and added a salutation. The carefully placed script grades a (“7”). The vintage baseball reveals moderate soiling throughout, while varying levels of abrasions are evident. Only one significant ball contusion adversely affects the personalized portion of Traynor’s signature. The autographs from these preeminent Pirate slugging stars comes with an LOA from PSA/DNA.
