With nearly 70% of his decisions being victories and a 1.75 ERA during his (50+) World Series innings pitched, few can match the numbers of the incomparable Lefty Grove. Presented is a black and white 8x10 period photograph of the legend, featuring the southpaw draped in his Athletics attire (1925-33). More importantly, the photograph bears a period signature and inscription from Grove (d.1975) penned in black-fountain reading To Tom Richards, From Lefty Grove. It should be noted that the signature is visibly stronger than the inscription and rates (6-7) given the surface. The photo itself displays edge flaking, minor waving and some discoloration on the reverse, though an experienced framer could make many of these ailments seemingly disappear. Without a doubt an early signature displaying more penmanship than the latter examples normally seen, this impressive period signature and photo is accompanied by a COA from James Spence Authentications.
