Exhibiting a head-shot eerily reminiscent of his T206 pose, the presented early-1900s sepia photograph features a young Honus Wagner likely in his mid-20s. Measuring 4 x 5-1/2, the image depicting the Flying Dutchman in fine clothing starring clearly into the camera has a crisp registration with no obtrusive imperfections. Laminated to a period 6-1/2 x 8 green celluloid frame with a lovely brown suede easel-back, this impressive artifact is accompanied by a non-descript letter of provenance tracing its history from the Wagner’s Pittsburgh estate to the iconic Barry Halper Collection. Not likely to demand what the T206 does, this relic is surely a scarcer item that its tobacco counterpart and has more of a personal touch.
