The offered 1912 T207 Brown Background George “Buck” Weaver with the scarce Broadleaf reverse is a benchmark card of this controversial player. This crease-free beauty grades an impressive SGC 50 VG-EX and displays at the peak of the technical grade. According to the SGC Population Report, only 17 Broadleaf Weavers have been graded with only two equals and two better. The registration is sharp, with even corner wear, and is only slightly off-center. The Broadleaf reverse is clean and contains an interesting biography of “Smiling George Weaver, shortstop of the White Sox.” Although the advertisement is lightly faded, the print is still very readable. With the exception of the nearly impossible-to-find Louis Lowdermilk and Irving Lewis cards from the T207 edition, Weaver stands alone as the most desired from this coveted set. This Weaver is a definitive card of a tragic figure from the “Black Sox” scandal.
