Presented are two 1930s Lou Gehrig and Babe Ruth postcards that show the players posing with Dick Mayes, one of the first professional baseball players. The first postcard measures 3-1/2 x 5-1/2 and contains a well-centered photograph that is framed by 1/2-inch white borders. A spot on both the left and right borders is visible, and the corners show slight wear. The back contains blue ink writing that describes in detail the significance of the picture and is dated April 4, 1934. The second postcard measures 3-1/2 x 6 and shows only Gehrig and Mayes together. A light crease marks both of the top corners, and several small aging cracks permeate the body of the postcard. The reverse features a written description; however the indents of the handwriting are visible on the front. Although both items show normal wear for their age, these postcards are solid, interesting pieces.
