“Save these cards, collect them! trade them!” was the credo found on boxes of Briggs Meats during the 1953-1954 seasons. Many kids followed the printed advice by crudely cutting their favorite stars from these hot dog boxes, trading amongst themselves, and often discarding their cardboard heroes. Overcoming this scarcity is the offered 1953-1954 Briggs Meat uncut panel of Mickey McDermott and Joe Tipton. This panel measures approximately 4-1/8 x 5-1/2”, and reveals a combination of wear including heavy creases, grease stains, paper loss and scuffing that relegates the panel grade to (FR). The grinning McDermott grades (GD) with a pair of spider creases and scuffing, while Tipton comes in at (PR) with paper loss on the bottom right corner. Both cards reveal faint grease markings on the front, while the reverse exhibits several minor creases, most of which do not protrude to the front. Both the front and reverse reveal a slight wax coating which has helped protect this specimen from the elements throughout the years. For Senators or regional fans, this formidable piece with blazing red colors is an exceptional accompaniment.
