Description

The 1930 Rochester Red Wings, the top farm team for the St. Louis Cardinals won a league record 105 games en route to winning the International League title. The offered red-and-black stitched Spalding ball (“5”) with (21) signatures includes pennings from skipper Billy Southworth (2008 Hall of Fame inductee) and Pepper Martin. Each signature is penned in black ink across the panels of this sphere. Included are West Panel: C. Wilson (d.1970, “3”), J. Brown (d.1950, “3”), R. Collins (d.1971, “”3”); East Panel: Southworth (d.1969, “4”), Littlejohn (d.1977, “4”), Derringer (d.1987, “4”), Martin (d.1965, “4”); North Panel: Carleton (d.1977, “7”); South Panel: E. Smith (d.1963, “5”) and the rest unidentified grading in the (“2-3”) range. The sweet spot is etched Champions International League 1930 in period black ink.
