Description

Offered is a pair of gorgeous team-signed baseballs from the 1930 and 1932 Beaumont Explorers of the Texas league. The 1932 sphere contains perhaps the earliest signature of Hall of Famer Hank Greenberg. An array of major league talent graces the panels of these finely penned balls. Highlights include 1930 Beaumont Exporters Team-Signed Baseball: (15 signatures, ONL Heydler, mostly 8-9, ball 7) with Sweet Spot: Ross (d.1996); West Panel: Wade (d.2006), Patchett; East Panel: S. Larkin (d.1969), Shelley (d.1978); 1932 Beaumont Exporters Team-Signed Baseball: (20 signatures, red-and-black stitched ONL Spalding, mostly 8-9, ball 6) with Sweet Spot: Newsome (d.1989), Rowe (d.1961); West Panel: Baker (d.1973), Fox (d.1966); East Panel: Pasek (d.1976), Easterling (d.1993), R. Sewell (d.1989), Clifton (d.1997), Reiber (d.2002), Benton (d.1984), Herring (d.1995), Hamlin (d.1978); North Panel: Greenberg (d.1986); South Panel: Collier (d.1944), Sullivan (d.1985), Hughes (d.1989) and Tauby (d.1955). Directly above the gorgeous Greenberg script on the 1932 Exporters ball is a hand-painted caricature logo. The sweet spot also contains a painted logo, probably the uniform lettering associated with the team. These team-signed baseballs come from the collection of a 1930s Detroit Tigers minor league pitcher, a teammate of the majority of these players. Auction COA from James Spence Authentications.
