The “Bronx Bombers” may have not won the World Series in 1934, but the squad was flush with Hall of Fame talent including an aging Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig. The offered 1934 New York Yankees team-signed baseball with (21) signatures is an impressive glimpse into the storied past of baseball’s most dominating franchise. This OAL Harridge sphere is penned in period black ink and presents exceptionally well. The surface of the ball is covered by a thin layer of lacquer that has preserved the signatures over the years. The trademark stamp is lightly faded, but the ball is otherwise clean and grades in the (“6”) range. Endorsers include Sweet Spot: Ruth (d.1948, “7”); West Panel: MacFayden (d.1972, “6”), Murphy (d.1970, “6”), Saltzgaver (d.1978, “6”), Taylor (d.1974, “5”), J. Sewell (d.1990, “6”), McCarthy (clubhouse); East Panel: Fletcher (clubhouse), Crosetti (d.2002, “6”), Gehrig (d.1941, “3”), Newkirk (d.1976, “2”), Jorgens (d.1980, “5”); North Panel: Byrd (d.1981, “6”), Rolfe (d.1969, “6”), Gomez (d.1989, “6”), B. Chapman (d.1993, “6”), Saltzgaver (“6”, second time on ball); South Panel: Ruffing (d.1986, “7”, first name variant), Allen (d.1959, “5”), Lazzeri (d.1946, “7”) and Heffner (d.1989, “7”). This team-signed baseball comes from the collection of a 1930s Detroit Tigers minor league pitcher. Auction COA from James Spence Authentications.
